Benefits of Reiki

So you're probably wondering about the benefits of Reiki and the great news is that there are more and more studies and research that support Reiki benefits.

Benefits of Reiki

By the way if you missed the previous posts in this series, click here.

The benefits are just amazing, and they do vary from person to person. It's just so incredible to hear the feedback from my clients after every session because they are so, so, so different.

Mostly, a lot of what you're looking for is to relax and to reduce stress in your body, in your mind, help with your everyday general anxiety. If you have a physical disease or symptom, Reiki can complement whatever treatments that you are receiving.

For some people it helps with physical pain, it helps calm the mind, it helps with clarity, gaining insight. There's such a wide range of benefits. I can probably spend a whole day on them. But those are just some, mainly to reduce stress, to relax.

I also say it's good maintenance for your insides. A lot of times we focus on our physical body, but we don't focus on our internal body. It's like a maintenance session. So think about your car, right? You get a brand new car, you drive it, you're happy with it. If you maintain it regularly, it lasts longer. It supports you better, and it keeps going. It doesn't break down on you, but if you don't maintain it, it breaks down, you have problems. This is the same with your body. So, a Reiki session can be a nice maintenance session for your insides, your mind, your emotions. One of my clients who described her session as 'it's like a massage for my insides'.

The wonderful thing about reiki as well, is that its being practiced more and more in hospitals, in private practices, in the medical field. It's really great for palliative care to help people relax and calm and help ease them through that process of being in hospice or palliative care.

The Cleveland Clinic says Reiki is reported to :

  • Better sleep

  • Reduced anxiety

  • Boosted mood

  • Reduced pain

  • Increased energy

  • Improved blood circulation

PubMed states:

Reiki is one of the more popular complementary modalities used by Australians to manage their health conditions. There is little data available on how widely Reiki is used in Australia, but information gleaned from public sources indicates that it is being employed with good effect in some hospitals, cancer support centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, and in palliative care. At the Oncology-Haematology Unit at Bega Valley Health Services, Reiki sessions are provided by Jennifer Ahrens, who reported,

Patients and carer responses noticeably referred to their fear and anxiety during a time of diagnosis of cancer and follow-up treatments. Most patients are grateful that the hospital provides this service, which they report as bringing diverse benefits, particularly on an emotional level and one that is personally supportive as they negotiate a stressful and traumatic period with less fear, anxiety or depression.

PubMed also states:

Reiki is better than placebo in activating the parasympathetic nervous system, as measured by reduced heart rate, reduced blood pressure, and increased heart rate variability.

For patients with chronic health conditions, Reiki has been found to be more effective than placebo for reducing pain, anxiety, and depression, and for improving self-esteem and quality of life. According to the neurovisceral integration model and the polyvagal theory, these effects are due to higher parasympathetic nervous system activity, mediated via the vagus nerve.

This understanding suggests that Reiki has the potential to provide valuable support for a broad range of chronic health conditions.
