I often get asked about Reiki, what it is, what to expect in a session. So I thought I'd take some time over the next few posts to cover some basics such as what Reiki is, what you can expect, how to prepare for your session and more.
So first of all, what is Reiki? Simply put, Reiki is a deeply relaxing technique that helps your body to self-heal. It promotes your body innate ability heal.
It's based upon the idea that there is an unseen life force energy that flows through us, that causes us to be alive. This life force flows through everything, plants, animals, trees, our food; without it, we would not exist.
So your life force is low, you are more likely to get sick. In traditional Chinese medicine, they say the cause of all disease is a disruption of your energy. Reiki helps to balance your energy and it helps to relax your mind and your body, and with a relaxed mind and body, it supports your body's ability to self-heal.
When we talk about energy, I like to use the analogy of a flashlight And a battery. Imagine you have a flashlight which you've just put in new rechargeable batteries. With new batteries in your flashlight you turn it on and guess what? The light shines bright.
Now what happens over time and use, that battery begins to drain and deplete and doesn't function well. And when you turn on the flashlight with a a battery that's low, what happens? It looks really dim. So you can tell when it's time to recharge your and replenish the battery.
Well, your body is the same. If your energy is low, you feel drained, tired, depleted and get sick. this life force is low, Reiki helps recharge and replenish your life force.
Another way I like to think about it is imagine a washing machine when you have something in and it's maybe big and bulky, it gets out of alignment and it makes that funny thunk, thunk, thunk noise. Right?
When your energy body is out of alignment and out of balance what Reiki does, is like pulling out those clothes out and realigning everything which brings the machine back into balance. Reiki brings you back into balance.
Another analogy that I like to use is the traffic on a highway. When you are in balance, it's like the traffic flowing on that highway. Everything's in sync, everything's flowing. You easily get from point A to point B, but sometimes you'll have somebody that is driving 30 on a 55 mile an hour speed limit. And guess what? The traffic is disrupted, it comes to a stop, jams up right and slows down?
So imagine that it's undercharged and your energy body slows down.
When out life force is undercharged, it causes traffic jams in our body which result in disease because the energy isn't able to flow to vital areas such as our heart, brain, organs, etc. then our internal systems don't function as they should.
Now imagine on the same highway when someone is going 90 miles an hour on 55 mile an hour speed limit. It goes crazy, and again, it disrupts the flow, it disrupts the balance.
Reiki helps bring it all back into balance, so you're driving nice and easy in harmony with ease; synchronized and coherent.
These are just a couple of examples of how to explain how Reiki works.
You can check out this previous post which explains how the energy actually works. I use an analogy of a water hose: www.liveyouryellowbrickroad.com/post/reiki-does-not-drain
