Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Reiki Training (#7)

In Person or Distant/hands-off Attunement

Do distant or hands-off attunements / placements work as well as in-person?

This question assumes you already know what an attunement is before your training. If not, it is essentially the way Reiki is passed down from teacher to student. Imagine  your car radio with a round dial which you use to ‘tune’ into a particular station. A Reiki attunement is like this radio dial which ‘tunes’ you into the frequency of Reiki energy.

Traditionally, the Reiki Master Teacher performs this attunement in person and hands-on.  Let’s consider this like the old cable that connected your computer to a modem.

We know there is no time or space barrier for energy to flow.  For example, when you walk into a room where there was a previous argument, you can feel this. Or how you can receive a distant reiki session from a trained Reiki practitioner.

An attunement can also be given from a distance and hands-off; consider this like wi-fi. Depending on how your Reiki Master Teacher was trained, this may also be called a ‘placement’.

As a teacher, I was initially trained to give attunements using the hands-on method. Even though it is very complex, we were trained that just as Reiki energy is spiritually guided, so are attunements. To this end, even if you ‘messed’ up, the student will still receive exactly what they need, because the teacher is just the facilitator of the process, similar to how the Reiki practitioner is when giving a Reiki session.

When I learned to give attunements in a wi-fi way, I was very open to this and have subsequently seen astonishing healings from students.

In my experience, it doesn’t matter which type of attunement/placement you receive or whether it’s in person or from a distance.  As long as you’re open, it’s just a personal preference, if it even matters at all to you. I wouldn’t get hooked up on it, as a Reiki practitioner and teacher, it’s more important to let the ego step aside and let Reiki do its magic with and for you.
