About the event
In this Hatha practice, we use postures, breath, and meditation to come into union. You will enter the postures slowly, find a position which you can maintain without movement for a period of time, finding the perfect balance between relaxation, comfort, and effort. Holding postures for an average of 2-5 minutes can be challenging but allows you to tap into the individual and universal energies of the chakras, to enter a meditative state, and create a state of stable equilibrium on the physical, mental, emotional, and psychological levels.
Yoga comes from the root word ‘yug,’ meaning to ‘yoke’, to ‘unite’. For ‘union’ to occur, there must be two or more of something to unite. With the use of asanas (postures) in hatha yoga we strive to unite the two polar energies within ourselves to come to a state of yoga, a union of the different aspects of our being, and ultimately of ourselves and the universe.
Hatha is symbolically translated as ha – sun, and tha – moon, therefore hatha yoga is the path to union between the solar and lunar energies within us. The sun and the moon are the symbols of the two polar energies from which the universe is manifested, the yin and the yang; the masculine and feminine. They epitomize the twofold and complementary character of the universe. Yin and yang exist only in relation to the other and are inseparable.
